Yeah just, first saw Saxon 2 nights in a row supporting Motorhead on the Bomber Tour.Which i think was i Nov or Dec 79(can't remember exactly it was 28 years ago for god's sake).Went out and bought the first album straight away. The rest is history as they say.I think that support slot was many Saxon fans first introduction to the band (us old farts anyway)

Not quite '79, it was 1980 for me, at the Rainbow theatre, supported by Lionheart. Hmmmm now that would make a good name for an album!

My story is very similar to Midnightrider. I saw Saxon on The motorhead tour in 1979. I have seen them at least once, almost every year since. They have never failed to dissapoint.
Going back to 1979, the year I left school. Between school and my engineering apprenticeship I worked on a small farm. Whilst doing some of the jobs I had a radio with me, I think it was Radio 1 but it may have been Radio Luxemburg or Caroline, and they played a track that caught my attention, I thought it was the Sex Pistols (well it was outdoors with a crappy radio) but the presenter refered to a "new" band called Saxon. Now, being an avid reader of Sounds, I had heard of Saxon before but had never herd them play. That night I went to my local record store and ordered the new Saxon self titled LP, which as I recall, had to be ordered as it was yet to be released. . As you have all said; the rest is history. |

Some class mates got to play Crusader in music class when it had just been released back in '84 and that was it, I was just blown away. Got Crusader (and Bark at the moon) for my birthday (on cassette back then, my first music) and have been a fanatic fan ever since. And Crusader is a very special song for me. First time I saw them wasn't until '95 though, on the Dogs of war tour, at Daily's. Me, a mate and a handful of others (and a few just sitting in the bar not knowing what they were missing) but to me it was absolutely fantastic and I have never gotten so close to the band at gig since. Seen them 10 times now, and counting....
