Default SAXON in Tempe last night

It was an unusual cold, rainy night in Tempe and being a Tuesday night, not a lot of people showed up. But there were a die-hard bunch of us there, and SAXON blew the roof off the joint!

They sounded thunderous playing through what I'm guessing was the house system of Marshall stacks. Both Scarrat and Quinn brought Les Pauls with Floyds on them and sounded awesome with crunchy, tube sweet goodness.

Was blown away how good Biff was live. I didn't expect anything else but that S.O.B. sounded perfect. With so many other singers from that era not able to sing their songs anymore it was so impressive to hear Biff sound PERFECT while singing all the high parts with ease.

Standouts for me were Chasing the Bullet (off the new album), Denim and Leather (turned into a fucking heavy metal bulldozer!), and the encores Strong Arm of the Law and Wheels of Steel.

The boys were all grinning during the concert and obviously having a blast which was great to see. Biff slyly said, "Well, obviously this isn't the biggest crowd we've ever played too (laughs from the crowd), but it's the passion, right?!! And you guys have the passion!!"

Honestly there were some of the parts of the show where EVERYONE - band and crowd alike - just got so completely into it and hit a zone with the music that the energy in the place went off the charts and it became like a runaway freight train. I've only seen or heard that a few times (Van Halen in 1981 was one) and I've been to A LOT of concerts.

Thanks for coming to America guys, it was truly a dream come true for a lot of us fans in the crowd last night!

thanks for posting your comments...and I'll second your sentiment of thanking the band for coming to North America....it truly is a dream come true for so many of us.

ComingHome, I will have to agree with you that Saxon's performance that night was truly spectacular!!! I had waited 32 years to see them live and let's just say it was worth every second of the wait.
I just really am at a loss for words to describe how great they really were.
I will be posting some links to some video that I shot during their performance at Club Red. It will be under the Gig Review section of the forum.
Would it be possible for your friend to e-mail me some of those pictures that he took. They are really great. I tried to take some myself but they did not come out very well. My camera does not perform under lowlight conditions worth crap.
Thanks!!!
