Looks like there's a new box set coming out.

Those "Original Album Series" are usually a very good deal price wise. I picked up the Foreigner one, their first 5 CDs and it was only $20. But, the CDs are in cardboard sleves not jewel cases, no liner notes, and no bonus tracks. So I suspect that this Saxon one will be the same way, just the first 5 CDs with no bonus tracks, no liner notes, in cardboard sleves.

If you search around I know there's also a Pantera one, a Ratt one, and many other bands. Just go to Amazon and search "Original Album Series" and you should find a whole bunch of them.

That series of boxsets are all good, but the previous Carrere and EMI years boxsets are better choices if you want Saxon reissues with great extras for a good price.

For a lot of people looking into sampling new bands the 'Original Album' series is a great starting point for the good stuff, but in Saxon's case I'd recommend the Carerre/EMI sets as the better choice when it comes to value for money.

I like the cover art. The bold SAXON logo looks tough.

If there was an "Original Album Series" part 2 what other 5 albums would you choose to be in the set?

Would be great to see a proper boxet (maybe in the shape of an eagle?)There must be some tracks that never made it on to albums out there.Without bunging the usual live tracks on to fill it up.That would be a great package and really make fans want it just for the unheard tracks. After all there are only so many versions of WOS,SAOTL,DL.............etc that one person can have.eh Rick Tilley!!!

The "Original Album Series" sets are indeed nice if you don't own anything from a band. I have ones from Montrose and Molly Hatchet. No bonus tracks, plain covers. The Columbia Legacy box sets are also good but cost a little more (I've got Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Kansas, Electric Light Orchestra) and they have some bonus tracks on them with liner note booklets.

Like UFO & Michael Schenker, I have around 4 versions of every Saxon album so no need for this set other than collector value (which means I will probably pick it up).
