If you want to avoid all the poncey wine bar type places then I would suggest "Carpe Diem". It's about 2 min walk from the Academy and is a bit more alternative than most bars nearby.

Think I get to Leeds about 3pm, so I'll be at the train station then. I'm booked into the Travelodge Vicar Lane. There is another Travelodge (Leeds Central) which is nearer to the train station, but I went for the Vicar Lane one because that is nearer the venue (nearer to stagger back to the hotel!).

That's how I pick my hotels too. I start with the closest one to the venue and work my way out until I find "private bathroom" in the description. Then I look at price.

I'm crashing at me brother's so it's all good, we'll both be going to the nearest pub. Should be interesting.

You could pick and choose by the beer and pastries they have in the hotel restaurant. (and by how well they photograph!)

There is a Weatherspoons pub , round the corner ( literally ) from the
Academy. Its about a 30 second walk !!!

The Cuthbert Broderick , its pretty big , compared to the one at Leeds Station which can get cramped at times with the drinkers waiting for their
trains.

If you do not know Leeds its at the top of Milennium Square , as you come
out of the doors to leave just turn left , go round the corner and up the road to the venue.

The Academy will be lit up with nice blue neon lights.
