Default Nwobhm

Never was much of a fan of this scene, absolutely hated Iron Maiden! Then I picked up "Piece of Mind" and was blown away! One Bruce joined they left that scene. NWOBHM is punk infused metal, and I don't like punk rock. Saxon were the best at it, and as I noted in another thread, I was not much of a Saxon fan back then, but dug the classic cuts. As Biff noted in the liner notes from the re-issue of "Innocence is no Excuse", they had moved on from that scene by then. In fact, every band that survived that scene moved on from it, it had a rather short shelf life...

I started to get into music at about the time of nwobhm, or at least towards the end of its run. So i guess by default i was gonna get into it. The movement influenced a helluva lot of bands.

I guess you got into the likes of Purple and Sabbath first being a few years older than myself?

Piece of Mind was the first Maiden album for me also. Got into Maiden in a big way when Saxon went off form (imo) after Power and Glory.

Yea, Priest, Sabbath, Rush...just thought those bands were far superior to what was happening in the NWOBHM, though a few of those bands coming out of that scene eventually came to the same level...
