by Tim Sykes

Arriving at the airport
on a cold damp winters day
all our friends are gathering
to watch mighty saxon play

A short flight into Dusseldorf
full of pre xmas cheer
the forum in good voice
aided by stansteds finest beer

Santa hats and police helmets
the biting wind is raw
singing on the underground
were the strong arm of the law

Standing in the crowd that night
20 strong maybe more
air guitars our voices hoarse
The wheels of steel encore

A cheeky nap upon the bus
the petrol station lager
coffee in the morning
to face the ryan air saga

And so its onto Manchester
to London,Wolverhampton too
it may be 18 months or more
it feels like a day or two

Fingers leads us to the front
through the saxon hordes
t shirts ,denim, leather
chainmail even swords

True friends are always together
though many miles apart
its more than music and culture
you feel it in your heart

So on this truely awful day
i raise my glass to the sky
to Pete ,a friend , a gent but even more
a genuine nice guy

Always loved never forgotten
R.I.P.

I have already posted the statement below in the other thread but wanted to put it here as well. Thanks Graham for a wonderful tribute and for the memorial page on Facebook.

"I was very shocked and saddened when I heard the news about Pete. A lovely and genuine guy who made me smile and laugh no matter how I was feeling. A true Saxon fan, a fabulous entertainer who was always doing stuff for other people and a Gentleman. I'm very proud to have known him and call him my friend. My life will be a poorer place without him but knowing Pete made me a better person and I will forever be thankful to him for that. R.I.P Sir you will never be forgotten.

My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time"

I'm so shocked and saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I first met him at the Forum meet up , August Bank Holiday, Horse and Barge gig in Harefield, 2011, and I liked him from the start! He entertained us all in the sun with his humour, talent & friendship and went on into the wee small hours with the Metaloke too .....

I last met Pete in Dec 2012 at The Gathering Rock Pub, Sutton Bridge, Lincs when him and Let there Be DC played the Gathering's Christmas party on December 15th. The band, and Pete, were on fire that night - they packed out the joint, entertained us all in true rock god style and we wouldn't let them finish until they gave us numerous encores .....!! It was a brilliant night and every single person who went agreed.

I think i'm right in saying it was The Gatherings busiest night ever since they opened and the guys were re-booked immediately to return and play again there this spring. After the gig Pete came and spoke to me, gave me a hug and wished me well with my treatment. I've posted some photos below taken at the gig ... enjoy!

My life is richer for knowing Pete, even if only briefly. His sad passing clearly illustrates that life is too short and we must grab every chance we can to enjoy it and live our own truth.

Tonight I am lighting a candle for Pete to say thank you to him for reminding me of this. I will place it on my angel shelf at home and play one of my AC/DC albums right through, for him.... i know he'll hear it! Bless you Pete- Rock and Rest in Peace, Dawn xxxxxxx
