Interesting, wonder if there'll be any different bonus tracks on these. Because otherwise, I'll probably have to pass because one can only have so many different versions of these on CD....right Rick?

As far as a vinyl release goes, I wouldn't count on it. Most of the companies who reissue the albums in these boxsets stick with CDs and cheap cardboard sleeves in place of jewel cases so as to offer as much music as possible while keeping the prices low, which is why they're exploding in popularity. Printing vinyl versions would cost a bomb, so the price of the set would have to be fairly high to make a decent profit. If any company wanted to take that chance then they'd be better off doing a very deluxe vinyl package, offer something worth spending the extra cash on.

This new set looks interesting, currently listed on Amazon at 29.99 for UK fans here, but no tracklist yet. Keep an eye on Amazon heading up to the release for a tracklisting, they'll more than likely post one closer to the actual date.

Sure it's not likely to be released as a vinyl set but saying that is almost like saying Saxon isn't worthy. Check out these videos by my friends from the VC showing their Iron Maiden box sets. Saxon could be getting these same free commercials. These same free hype videos.

PS I'm a collector so I pre ordered the other CD box set through Amazon and still haven't received it. Amazon says they're temporarily out of stock. I'm not sure they ever got a shipment. They did send the UFO set ( the set with their newest albums ) I ordered at the same time. It's a great set. Four of those albums I've never heard before and are now in frequent rotation. I wish Saxon was releasing a box set (yes, even CDs) of their recent albums so others could be turned on to their new music. Why two similar box sets two months apart?

Saxon deserve it, no question. I'm amazed UDR haven't had that idea yet, frankly. A well-presented set with a detailed booklet that contains album information or photos/interviews packaged in a sturdy but not too expensive to produce box would be a great way to honour a legendary but often unfairly overlooked band.

As for the two boxsets in such a short space of time, there must be some bizzare loophole or some such anomaly that lets other companies release the old albums. Either that or the old albums don't belong to UDR exclusively and are in an open-season type of arrangement. It is very odd, indeed.

It's also odd that the band don't mention the sets on the site, unless they don't know of or support them.

Cheeky so and so

I'm afraid to say I'll be ordering it

Sir Lionheart. I think that the early albums belong to EMI (please correct me if I'm wrong anyone) and that's why there have been so many releases in recent years. Saxon's profile is on the up in a big way so other record companies will probably release and farm off to other companies to make as much dosh as possible!

Totally agreed though that there should be a box set of the more recent albums but it boils down to who owns the rights to those as well. Do Virgin and SPV still have their respective albums. If they do then we are unlikely to see them collected together unfortunately.
