I like it. It's a short song for Metallica; on Death Magnetic the shortest track was already five minutes long.
I'm looking forward to the album. Almost as much looking forward to the new Metallica as to the new Marillion.

There is a good sounding live version of the song on Blabbermouth.

I don't really like it. Drums sound bad and it's a bit lifeless. It's got that death magnetic sound which was ok but not well suited to faster old school thrash. Don't think rich middle aged men do thrash we to be honest. Overkill, Death Angel & Testament are making better albums than the so called big 4. But there are quite a few young bands doing it with a lot more energy - Lost Society, Havoc, Hatchet, Vektor etc.

Slightly biased though grew up in the thrash era. Loved the first 4 Metallica albums. Black albums was just ok. Liked load and reload but the image and crap they spouted was hard to listen to. St anger was terrible. Lou lou an embarrassment. Death Magnetic ok but they live on the early stuff. Great live still but even they know live the crowd are looking for the early material. So not much hope for the new one.

First off,I am 46 years old and first got into Metallica in 1984 when Ride The Lightning came out....I've hated Metallica ever since The Black album came out in '91....that album and everything they've done since is utterly CRAP.

But the new Track Hardwired does not have Death Megnetic over tones in it as Doom Rider's opinion states...I highly disagree and I too grew up on Metallica, Slayer,Testament ect...

I too have an opinion .....It sounds like it could of been released in 1989 right after .. And Justice For All. The guitar tones sound more like AJFA than Death Megnetic. ?

This song sounds like a cross between the song Damage Inc.off Master of Puppets & Blackened off AJFA...the attitude/spirit of the Hardwired track has a late 80's vibe. I'd love to bash 'Tallica this time around like I have for the last 25 years but I'm not going for the TREND ....I'm giving credit where credit is due.

And this "production" trend...notice it doesn't matter what band it is...even Saxon...."the production sucks"....the production...the production...the production.... Jesus...these people obviously do not like 80's metal cause for Christ's sake go back and listen to the production of some of some classic LPs...

..the production suffering these days is a mental trend..sure once in a while a band has one but no way this many albums are deemed poor production...Judas Priest's (my favorite band)Redeemer Of Souls is a good example....listen to Defenders Of The Faith's drum tone....its terrible...

..but since its a great album nobody notices it. It sounds like a drum machine for God's sake! Anyways..

Don't like the new Track? Fine. But this IS 80's styled Metallica....even Kirk's solo. Now ....the rest of the album? That could be another story.

I like lofi production on thrash albums. And yes the 80s stuff had that thinner rawer production of it's time that I like. To me on this it' not the over all production that I dislike it just sounds a bit by numbers going through the motions. The drums to me sound lifeless and the guitar more like something off DM. I would just prefer the guitars to have a bit more cut\edge but then they haven't had for years. The new testament track is much more enjoyable to me.

As for production I like what working with Andy Sneap has done for Saxon on the last couple of albums. Some people probably don't like it much.

I hear what your sayin' dude.....it's just that todays day and age these days ...metal fans have just got SOOOOOOOOOOOO picky...nit picky about the SOUND of everything.... I just cant relate anymore. I get it that even in the p past there have been records with under par quality production...but its ....idk man........the new Metallica track Hardwired made me SMILE for the first time since 1988.....

So I guess I just cant listen THAT closely to these minor details(Im sure they are major for you...it's all good man thumbs up )....the new song looks like a duck, sounds like a duck.....to me it sounds like Damage Inc. And Blackened big time. I cant hear the DM tone in the guitars and Lar's drums sound full of life to me...the first since 88'. I guess we all just hear things dufferently. I LOVE the RAW production on Judas Priest's Redeemer Of Souls....it's a 'JAM'......not rocket science.

It doesnt need to be PAINKILLER production....it's more like Screaming For Vengeance -like if anything. Anyways...you have to at least admit that it's the best thing Metallica has done 1988 right?
